I am going to start with what is not new! I hear so many colleagues and others in the construction industry say, “This is going to be a year unlike any other.” While I do agree with that statement, I must stop and reflect on the last two years. The last two years were already “unlike any other” due to a pandemic which caused material shortages, labor shortages, and too many other issues to list. This year as we enter the second quarter we are realizing, even more, the fall out of a worldwide pandemic and other world events. We are seeing rising gas prices, material shortages (better stated-non-existent materials), labor shortages, market fear and panic. Throughout all of this, I remain optimistic and encourage the MJI Team to stay the course. I watch the news, I read the reports, I listen to economists and realize that the only I that I can control is my thoughts and my situational responses. That does not mean that we do not use the information to make decisions and form a path forward, it means that we do not panic and freeze, we pivot when we need to remain flexible so we can offer the best possible service to our customers.
